Marie has advocated for us, arranged for family fund grants, has listened and hugged and reassured us, and given us hope where we thought none existed.
Marie has been a part of our daughter's journey since before she was born. When we received the news that E had congenital heart defects, our worlds fell apart. The very next day at LGI - Marie helped put us back together again. She explained all about the care E would receive, she helped us visit the wards she would be staying on and gave us information about charity housing, etc that we may need as we do not live locally to Leeds. Every scan - Marie was there to offer advice and reassurance. She remembered our names and took the time to get to know us.

Once E was born, the complexities of her cardiac issues were extreme. We'd spent 5 days on a delivery suite and no longer had anywhere to stay when we were moving to neonatal wards. I was tired and sore from my C-section and my husband had spent 5 days in a chair. She took the time to come and visit us and on hearing we had nowhere to go - in the space of an hour - had organised a room at Eckersley house for us. She kept coming back to visit us and became a familiar face when all about us seemed to be falling apart. Every time E has been on the ward, Marie has taken time to come and visit us. She has advocated for us, arranged for family fund grants, has listened and hugged and reassured us, and given us hope where we thought none existed. E went on to develop other conditions, craniosynostosis, a tumour, had 2 emergency bowel operations, and each and every time - even when it wasn't her department - Marie took the time to make sure her cardiac needs were met, to be a shoulder to cry on and to do anything she could, always beyond the call of duty - to help us.

Marie is an excellent nurse but she is also exceptionally skilled with people. She takes time with everyone she meets and follows their progress through everything. We cannot thank her enough for being there for us over the last 2 years and probably more to come - she deserves recognition because she cares above and beyond her job. She cares about people as people, not just as patients. We really hope she can receive the recognition she so truly deserves.
