Rien was the first nurse to suggest having our daughter participate in her own care. Including things like helping with the blood pressure cuff and pushing the meds in her own NG tube. Our daughter felt for the first time in charge of her own body, and for a typically developing 5-year-old, participating in her own care was empowering. Rien was also always upbeat and making our care feel individualized and special.
