In preparation for chemo, I needed a port put in place. I was nervous about this process. From the minute I met my nurse, Marilou McQueen, I knew I was in good hands! She explained the process of putting in the port.
Marilou showed me a model of the port and how it worked. She answered all my questions in layman terms. She explained the process of placing the port and why it is placed on the right side. She said I would be mildly sedated, but still awake. She described how the operating table would be set-up and about how long the procedure would take. Throughout this process, she made sure I was comfortable and warm. She treated me in such a professional manner. She certainly kept me from getting nervous.
When the procedure was over, and I left the hospital, I left my discharge papers at the hospital. When I got home I called back and Marilou emailed the instructions to me and treated me like a family member. A few days later, she called me to see how I was doing and if I had any questions. I felt very fortunate to have such a carrying person taking care of me. Marilou is the best!
