Having never been hospitalized before I didn't know how important supportive care was. Marilyn brought calmness and care that eased my anxiety.
Marilyn demonstrated compassionate connected care and did a wonderful job decreasing not only her patient's anxiety but also her family's stress during a difficult time. Thank you Marilyn for all you do for our patients! Please read below the nomination that highlights the exceptional care Marilyn provided:
As someone who prides myself on living a healthy lifestyle, being admitted to the hospital was a daunting situation I never envisioned myself in. When informed by my PCP that it was necessary to go to the emergency room and ultimately be admitted this brought an uneasiness and fear that I had hoped to never experience.
Upon further examination it was determined that I didn't need surgery, however did have to spend the next 4 days under the attention of a medical professional. While I was relieved with the news of not having to have surgery I was still very emotionally distraught and scared of the uncertainty of my condition. During my hospitalization, there was still the need for IV and antibiotic therapy which exasperated fear and anxiousness. Being in the hospital in a COVID environment also added great despair on top of my existing emotional distress.
This is where Marilyn's presence came into play. Having never been hospitalized before I didn't know how important supportive care was. Marilyn brought calmness and care that eased my anxiety. Her bedside manners and attention to detail relieved the tension and stress I was feeling. One of the many difficulties I was faced with centered around having to cancel previously scheduled plans to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday. While the plans were already scaled down due to COVID restrictions, our family ultimately decided to cancel due to my hospitalization. As you can imagine, I was heartbroken to not be able to celebrate this milestone with my mother.
While on the phone with her, Marilyn walked into the room. She wished my mom a happy birthday and said, "You go on and enjoy your birthday and take care of yourself. I got her and will take care of her." This brought a smile to my face and eased my mother's heart and to that, we will be forever grateful. Every time Marilyn left the room, it was left clean and organized. Her updates provided assurance that I was receiving the highest quality of care. Because of her willingness to go above and beyond and anticipate my needs this affirmed that Southern Hills was the right choice for my care. Thanks, Marilyn...you Rock!
