Marilynn has been a nurse at Beaufort Memorial Hospital for 20 years and currently works on 2 East, Mental Health. Marilynn showed great compassion and went out of her way to comfort one of our patients. A patient who was chronically mentally ill and had been hospitalized on the unit several times had recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. The patient had no close family ties and lived in a residential care facility. As she could no longer be cared for in this facility, she was set to go to another facility in another part of the state that could accommodate both her mental illness and her medical needs. The patient was very anxious and was afraid to leave the mental health unit because they were the only "family" she knew. Marilynn not only spent time listening and allaying her fears, but she also bought the patient a new suitcase and items that she felt would ease her transition such as warm socks, a cuddly robe and a blanket to make her new bed feel special. Marilynn went the extra mile to make the patient's journey to her new home a more pleasant experience. Marilynn always goes out of her way for the patients and her patients love her. We are so proud of Marilynn and grateful to have her at Beaufort Memorial!
