Mario Guzman, BSN, RN

Last night Mario spent his shift working with a very critical patient. The patient was a new admission during the day and Mario started his shift by calling a rapid response. The patient had a possible GI bleed and was in terrible abdominal pain. Mario was there the whole time talking to and distracting the patient while trying to get in touch with doctors for IV access and pain meds. In order to get to the bottom of the abdominal pain, Mario took the patient to CT scan himself. He was constantly reassuring the patient. Unfortunately, some hours later the patient took a turn for the worse, and a code was called. Mario was the first to recognize the change and rally staff to help the situation. He spoke with family and code members compassionately and efficiently updated every one of the situation. I'm glad to work with Mario and appreciate the humor and morale he brings to our unit. He has grown so much in the time he has been here.
