Having just completed OB/GYN residency, it was a very new experience to be "on the other side" and to be the patient instead. Theory and practice truly are two completely different things! While I was blessed during my labor and delivery and also surrounded by wonderful nurses and doctors, the hard part was postpartum. Marion was always extraordinarily attentive, caring, respectful, and supportive.
She explained the plan for phototherapy and started helping me to breastfeed and latch on my newborn girl when I was struggling - at 6:45 pm when I know from working here before many would have referred to the soon oncoming night shift! The next day she reassured me to keep breastfeeding and to pump in addition.
She "picked me up" when I came back from feeding my baby in the nursery and was completely insecure as to what to do next and helped me find a way. I felt lost and overwhelmed until Marion took time to help, encourage, and reassured me - that time even beyond her shift!
I can only wish for all of my future patients as I go out into practice to be cared for by such a truly amazing nurse. She's been a blessing for us!
