Marisa recently partnered with LifeSource to care for a patient who gave the gifts of life through organ, eye, and tissue donation. Marisa made a strong bond with both of their patient's families and modified her schedule with her co-workers to ensure she could care for them for the duration of their hospital stay and donation. She even accompanied them to the OR, so she could be there for their final moments with their loved one. The family was so grateful, commenting that she is now an honorary member of their family. Marisa competently cared for this patient and proved the family with transparent, clear, and timely information about the patient's status. She worked with the doctors and other care professionals through each step of the process and was involved in care conferences where difficult information was shared, and hard decisions were made. Through every phase, she provided comfort and guidance to the family, while continuing to care for the patient with the utmost dignity and respect.
She is a joy to work with, she also put the family in a place where they could share joyful stories and memories about their loved one throughout despite tragic circumstances. Through her care, the family was able to laugh at times and share that while they were hoping for a miracle, instead they get to be someone else's miracle. For many families, this conclusion isn't immediately apparent. Marisa most certainly had something to do with this.
