During her morning assessment, Marisa was assessing the skin of a patient and found an abscess that all previous nurses had missed, potentially due to the location. After informing the doctor, an ultrasound was ordered, which confirmed the abscess, and the patient was rushed to surgery, where a diagnosis of Fournier's gangrene was made. The potentially fatal effects of this disease were avoided due to the diligent and skillful nature of Marisa’s assessment, as she single-handedly found the source of infection that had puzzled the critical care and infectious disease team. The care and compassion that Marisa shows to her patients is an example for all nurses.
