We had a very sick patient on our unit who was discharging to Hospice Care. This patient has been bed-bound for weeks before coming to the hospital and had been on our unit a week or so.
Marisol took time out of a very busy shift to provide some very special TLC. Marisol washed, brushed, and beautifully French braided the patient's hair. The patient's response was immediate — "I haven't had my hair braided in years!", she said with tears. I could see the patient's face lift. Her son was so thankful to come in for a visit and to see the obvious care and attention of a wonderful nurse.
As a nurse, I love moments where the task list falls away and the focus is on the person in front of us. I am inspired to be better and do better for my patients as I watched Marisol go above and beyond in caring today.
