Marissa was so happy and enthusiastic about her job. I felt like I was her dad or at least a part of her family. Marissa would bound into the room with a booming voice to announce the beginning of the day with, "It is time for our coffee". We would talk about how I was doing, how I felt, and what I wanted, "If you could have anything you wanted". After coffee, we began our routine, such as restroom, straightening my room, clean sheets, and bedding. She would then explain any changes in medications. She always explained what my medications were for and how to take them. She would take my vital signs and do an assessment and encourage me to breathe deeply to "raise those totals". She always gave me the opportunity for self-care with bathing and teeth brushing but was there if I needed her. Marissa was a lifesaver with a smile on her face. She was my nurse in shining armor. Thank you, Marissa.
