Marissa Flammang, RN
I am deeply honored to nominate Marissa Flammang for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award in recognition of her profound compassion, kindness, and exemplary nursing leadership. Earlier this month, I received the devastating news of a family member’s passing while on shift. In that moment of immense grief, I found myself overwhelmed, unable to compose myself, and struggling to continue. Ms. Flammang’s response was nothing short of extraordinary, and it is a moment I will never forget.
Without hesitation, she stepped in to manage my patient assignments, ensuring every handover was seamless and that my patients were fully cared for. But what truly set Ms. Flammang apart was how she supported me beyond her clinical duties. She stayed with me, quietly and reassuringly, following at a distance, ensuring I was safe and offering a comforting presence that lifted me in one of my darkest moments. Her attention to my well-being was remarkable; she asked if I could drive myself home, and she stayed close by until she was confident, I was okay. Her compassion didn’t stop there—when I returned to work, she checked in on me, showing genuine care and empathy that reminded me how fortunate I am to have her as a leader.
Ms. Flammang embodies what it means to be a true nurse leader. She consistently demonstrates nursing excellence, and her empathy and kindness shine through in every action she takes. This act of compassion is just one of countless examples of her extraordinary character and unwavering dedication to her team. Her support and presence made an immense difference to me, and I truly cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award.
