Marissa would talk to R and love on him like he was hers.
My son R (age 11) was brought to Levine Childrens Hospital in cardiac arrest. Being a RN in the pediatric ED at LCH this was my literal worst nightmare. My son was found unresolved with an unknown down time before arriving at the ED. Pulses were obtained however the damage to his brain was fatal. R was taken to PICU at Levine Childrens. I was no longer an RN but a heartbroken mother who was having to make decisions no mother should have to make.

The staff in PICU treated R as if he was their baby. Everyone was so amazing and kind but one nurse stood out and went above and beyond each shift to make sure R was comfortable and tried so hard to make my time there one that was positive. Marissa would talk to R and love on him like he was hers. She would talk with me and allow me to share R's life with her. She was kind and helpful with my other children in helping them navigate through losing their brother. She would explain everything that was happening and was patient with me when I had questions.

I elected organ donation for R so he could help others. Marissa Redmond helped me through that process and when it was time to say goodbye, she stayed by my side the entire time. She helped me carry my son into my lap so I could cuddle with him one last time. Marissa had me lay with him when it was time for his honor walk from PICU to the OR. And she stayed with him until it was time for him to become a hero, talking to him and reassuring him that he was loved and brave. Marissa Readmond will always hold a special place in my heart.
