I've been meaning to write a nomination for Marissa for a long time! She consistently goes above and beyond for her patients and, most importantly, maintain patients' dignity. I can think of two patients in particular that Marissa spent the time to give them full haircuts.
We set up a makeshift hair salon for the one I help her with. Multiple buckets, shampoo, clippers/scissors, electric razors...Marissa gave her a pixie cut that the patient loved. She had been on our unit for likely a month with a visitor only once. The patient kept repeating how good she felt. She ended up dying a few days later. I always recall how Marissa took the time to pamper her.
Another patient multiple weeks ago had been here almost a month with no visitors. Polish speaking only. Marissa gave him a haircut and shave and made him look clean, put together, and ultimately dignified. We get so busy sometimes as nurses that we lose sight of this. Marissa never does! She is excellent in her genuine care for her patients.
