Marissa pulled up a chair and talked me through several different possible scenarios and then gave me a hug.
Marissa was my nightshift nurse the night before I gave birth to my first child. She took over for another nurse around 10. Right away she did an amazing job of explaining everything that she was going to do and what I could expect over the next few hours. She answered all of my questions and was clearly very knowledgeable. I was pretty nervous about giving birth for the first time and became a little emotional as I told her I was afraid something bad could happen. So she pulled up a chair and talked me through several different possible scenarios and then gave me a hug. She made me feel so seen and heard and safe in that moment and I knew I was in good hands. She worked so hard that night, making sure I was informed and comfortable and my labor was progressing as it should. I honestly felt so relaxed the rest of the night and I believe that's largely because of Marissa. I only interacted with her for about 10 hours, but it was so evident that she is truly a wonderful person filled with compassion, empathy, and knowledge. She's an exceptional nurse, and Mercy is beyond lucky to have her!
