Vic consistently goes above and beyond for her patients, staff, leadership, and providers.
Marivic "Vic" Quizon consistently goes above and beyond for her patients, staff, leadership, and providers. Her recent act of kindness and compassion brings tears to my eyes. In our ambulatory care sites, we are faced with challenges every day to ensure we take the best care of our patients while they are being seen and ensure they have a solid discharge. One night, Vic encountered the following situation and exemplified not just our ICARE4U principles but highlighted the true core trait of nursing- compassion. To help UMC maintain a just culture and help improve our processes, she reported the incident to hopefully find a way to help the next patient that might be in need.
QC was already closed. As Vic was about to go to her parked car, she witnessed a patient who was still sitting on her walker in front of the building. She asked her who would pick her up. She claimed she had been waiting for a cab. She asked Vic to call the cab company for her. Vic tried several times, and no one answered. Vic tried calling another cab company for her, but no one was available to pick her up, even after informing them the patient was blind and needed assistance. Vic could not leave this patient to wait outside in the cold, so she decided to drive the patient home to her apartment. Vic walked her to her apartment, which is in the middle of a huge apartment complex, a long walk in the dark with a blind patient in a walker. The patient claimed it is usually her neighbor that takes her to get in a cab and pick her up from a cab during the daytime. However, her neighbor was at work at that time. She never locks her apartment due to her situation. Vic made sure she got inside her home safely.
