Whether it was a student seeking advice or a colleague facing a challenge, Marjorie listened with empathy and offered guidance. She would sit at the nurses’ station in the middle of the chaos, ready to be nearby and offer help when needed.
In the bustling halls of the University of North Florida Student Health Services, Marjorie Hartmann, BSN, RN, stood out like a beacon of compassion and leadership. Her unwavering commitment to patient care and her ability to rally her team have left a permanent mark on our clinic. Marjorie embodied the attributes we seek in a Nurse Leader. Trust, compassion, and mutual respect were not just buzzwords for her; they were the foundation of her leadership. Whether it was a student seeking advice or a colleague facing a challenge, Marjorie listened with empathy and offered guidance. She would sit at the nurses’ station in the middle of the chaos, ready to be nearby and offer help when needed.

Marjorie’s availability was legendary. She was responsive to the needs of her team, always ready to lend a helping hand. When a nurse faced a difficult case or needed support, Marjorie was there, ready to collaborate and problem-solve. She advocated fiercely for her team, ensuring that their needs were communicated to organizational leadership, bridging the gap between frontline staff and decision-makers. Her clear communication ensured that everyone was aligned with our organizational priorities and directions.

Marjorie’s compassion extended beyond patient care. She knew her team members’ names, their stories, and their dreams. When a colleague faced personal challenges, Marjorie was there with a comforting word and a listening ear. She celebrated their successes and supported them through setbacks. Her impact reached far beyond her clinical duties. She initiated our staff notebook on Microsoft Teams, streamlining our administrative processes. Her research on AAAHC accreditation set us on a path toward excellence. As a former surgical tech, she spearheaded our infection prevention efforts, ensuring the safety of both patients and staff.

When our phlebotomist was off duty, Marjorie stepped in seamlessly. Her dedication to patient care knew no bounds. She juggled responsibilities with grace, always putting the team’s needs first. When our previous lead nurse departed, Marjorie stepped into the void. With her leadership, our team regained its sense of purpose and unity. She fostered respect among colleagues, creating an environment where everyone felt valued. As Marjorie embarks on a new chapter in Virginia, we bid her farewell with gratitude. Her legacy will continue to inspire us. Marjorie, with her love for chickens and infectious laughter, has left an indelible mark on our hearts.
