March 2020 Honoree
mark short, BSN, RN
A patient was brought to MU Health Care following an ATV accident that required a leg amputation. The patient spent months in the hospital. During this time, Mark did everything he could to help address the patient's pain, uncertainty, and frustration. He came in during his days off to be with the patient on surgical days and would even drop off the patient's favorite food, Texas Roadhouse, to help him eat and lift his spirits.
"Mark never missed an opportunity to be a source of consistency, encouragement, and comfort," his DAISY nomination read. "He was a coach when he needed to. He explained like a teacher when he had to, and he loved like a brother the whole time. He became more than a nurse; he became a part of the foundation upon which the patient's future would be built."

Thank you, Mark, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
