My family and I were on the receiving end of Mark's nursing professionalism, knowledge, patience, guidance, positive attitude, compassion, kindness, and advocacy actions during my father's illness.
I also witnessed Mark assisting co-workers in CCU with their tasks, imparting knowledge, taking on extra work, and stepping up to work extra for all team members.
From the first night of our admittance, I realized Mark was an extraordinary RN whom Baptist Union City is fortunate to have on staff. I am an RN myself and have several medical professionals in my immediate family.
I was a frequent CCU visitor and an overnight caregiver for my 91-year-old father who had emergency surgery. On the first night of our admittance, we were blessed to have Mark as our RN in CCU. What a new experience for my dad who had not been in a hospital overnight since he was 28 years old! Mark set my daddy at ease with his competency, attentiveness to technical and ADL needs, and conversation. This, in turn, gave us all security and confidence in Mark and your hospital, and in the upcoming surgery/post-op recovery.
During the 5 post-op nights in CCU, I witnessed Mark's medical knowledge in action as he assessed changes in my daddy's condition and acted on those in a way that prevented Dad from going into fluid overload. My husband (a physician) and I know that his assessments and interventions prevented complications from developing.
He kept my sister, Dad, and me abreast of any changes, orders, and answered every question we had. Mark acted like he had all the time in the world to help us, even when the unit was loaded with 9 patients and only 2 RNs working. I felt involved in my dad's patient care; we felt listened to and respected. I trusted Mark as did my parents and sister.
We asked each day if Mark would be working that evening and were relieved when told yes because we knew Daddy would be in good hands during the night. What a peaceful feeling that was when Mark told us he would see us for the night shift! Nurses like Mark are what gives patients and families a good feeling about our local hospital.
