Back in January when we were just finding out about COVID-19, a patient presented to the ER with recent travel to China. Having just learned about where the breakout was and the patient's symptoms, Markie alerted the charge nurse, and manager that there was a patient with possible exposure in the department. This was a very new process for us all, administration and the health department were notified, and the executive board room suddenly became a mini incident command.
Nurse Markie Urso was called into incident command and was able to provide valuable information to the team. She was then given instructions on what to do next. The lab director coached her through the process of our system's very first COVID swab collection. Without hesitation Markie suited up in PPE and collected the swab from the patient. Her caring, compassionate, fearless, demeanor was inspiring and comforting to the patient and the staff. We would like to recognize Markie Urso, RN for not only a job well done that day but also for her continuous patient care. We are all truly proud to work alongside such a confident and compassionate nurse.
