Dr. Berens has dedicated her life to more than 35 years of pursuing excellence in nursing practice, leadership and education.  She has authored numerous research projects on a myriad of topics including the development and implementation of a peer mentor program which positively impacted student success. In addition she co-authored articles including recent poster presentations both nationally and internationally utilizing peer mentoring to examine esteem, efficacy, and connectedness in new employees. Her passion is serving the underserved, both academically and clinically.   She is a member of numerous professional organizations including the Michigan Counsel of Nurse Practitioners, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, and Alpha Sigma Nu. While earning her doctoral degree she received the Excellence in Nursing Advanced Practice Registered Nurse award and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Nursing. Dr. Berens received the Chamberlain College of Nursing Faculty DAISY award in 2016. Dr. Berens earned an associate degree in nursing from West Shore Community College, a bachelor?s degree in nursing from Grand Valley State University, a master?s degree in nursing from Michigan State University and a doctoral degree in nursing practice from Regis University.
