Marlene Blackburn goes above and beyond when it comes to compassion regarding those who are in need. This has happened several times since I have worked with her, but feel she needs to be recognized. We have a patient who comes to us frequently for paracentesis. This patient is having a hard time financially due to inability to work. Marlene ensures he feels welcome and cared for at every visit. Today, in particular, is his birthday. Marlene took it upon herself to buy several articles of clothing, cupcakes, a birthday card, and a birthday banner to surprise him. We are lucky to have her in a leadership role and to be a role model for our team. In addition to this, one of our staff members is taking FMLA to care for a family member having an esophagectomy due to cancer (Which is a radical surgery with lots of post-procedure needs and follow up), Marlene put together a family care package for the employee to help them pass the time while they wait in the hospital and while they wait during surgery. Items include Yahtzee, word puzzles, gift cards for meals, etc. Her kindness and compassion are not only shown to her staff but to our patients. This makes the work environment so very special.
