There was improved communication with the patient, his wife, and VPS due to our nurse, Marlene.
We received a VPS referral 3 times for a patient. Twice he refused to let our nurse in the home for the SOC. VPS was trying to convince the patient to let our nurse go out but also advised us the patient was stubborn. When he finally let our nurse go out he met Marlene. He went from being non-compliant to letting her come to change his dressings and never refusing a visit. He often called the day before to make sure it was her who was coming.
With her assistance, the patient accepted physical therapy. Even the Doctor at VPS noticed an overall improvement in the patient. The patient reported that she was the best nurse he ever had and that she was able to change his dressings in a way that didn’t hurt as much. They had developed a rapport, and he trusted her as his nurse. There was improved communication with the patient, his wife, and VPS due to our nurse, Marlene. This is why I have nominated her for a DAISY Award. Her compassion and how she takes care of her patients encompasses the VNA mission. She provided a holistic approach to deliver the best possible care to her patient.
