She is the definition of the type of nurse Florence Nightingale believed in.
When it comes to making a difference in nursing there are many qualities I can think of. Having empathy for your patients, being committed to their care, and being a role model to other nurses are just a few. I haven't had Marlene as my own personal nurse. I have however had her as a fellow nurse that I look up to. She shows great empathy for every patient no matter the circumstances and is one of the most dedicated nurses I have ever come across. I started as a baby nurse fresh out of school and straight into the pandemic (I have never been so scared in my entire life). I feel like I got robbed of a lot during nursing school due to Covid. However, Marlene took me right under her wing, and taught me more about nursing than nursing school ever did. No matter the problem of the patient, the difficulty of the patient, or the type of patient (child, newborn, stillborn, adult- I've witnessed her take care of them all) she has always given it her all without hesitation. She is the definition of the type of nurse Florence Nightingale believed in. There are so many uncertainties with healthcare and nursing today. One thing I am very certain about is when I look at the future 30 years from now, I can only pray I am half the nurse Marlene is to all her patients and co-workers. I wouldn't be half the nurse I am today, had it not been for her, and for that, I am forever thankful!
