Marlene persistently encouraged the spouse of a monthly patient to have a colon screening completed due to a her mother's family history of colon cancer. The woman suffered from abdominal pain and blamed it on her gallbladder. Marlene pushed and pushed for the woman to have her screening until she finally made an appointment for the screening. The findings revealed colon cancer! Fortunately it was caught early enough that the providers had time to do something about it. The woman called later and thanked Marlene for being persistent and encouraging her to get screened because if it wasn't for her pushing, the cancer could have consumed her life. If that is not a demonstration of a devoted nurse that is dedicated, compassionate and cares for the well being of her community and patients then I don't know what is!

Marlene deserves this award because she is amazing, compassionate, dedicated, devoted, and a caring nurse!
