Marley consistently demonstrated compassion, respect, and professionalism when providing care for my son (2 shifts). When medical concerns arose, she promptly corresponded with the medical team to resolve the issues (foley catheter pain/inflated in the urethra and sudden hive/rash outbreak near IV site). She explained each medication prior to administering, as I was concerned due to a lot of sensitivity to meds. She took the extra time to help my son endure the oral meds by helping mask the taste by providing a drink and bite of snack between doses. My son requested this routine and she followed it through both shifts without any prompting. She was gentle and attentive to my son and always patient and thorough with my questions and concerns, also asking if we needed anything before leaving the room never making us feel rushed or insignificant. Marley is the most genuine and positive nurse I've ever met.
In regard to a foley incident, Marley was professional and thorough in explaining the situation and the adjustment she needed to make in the foley insertion and included my son and me in the decision moving forward with the needed foley adjustment. She even took the time to draw a picture explaining to my son on his level what needed to be done to increase his understanding and lessen his fear. In this situation as well as a few other situations (hives, increased heart rate, leg numbness/pain after spinal surgery) she calmly investigated symptoms with my son, contacted appropriate medical staff for collaboration, and used critical thinking (especially when foley advancement wasn't successful by removal rather than reinflating in urethra). At all times she demonstrated competence with high standards in her profession and consistency with her nursing skills. She also included my son and me in coordinating his care each shift and was flexible when we wanted to delay a medication to coordinate best pain relief for therapy within medication guidelines, orders and policies. She was flexible in rotating my son more frequently to keep him most comfortable and pain-free. Marley is an absolute outstanding nurse and true to the mission of nursing at all time.
