I could hear Marlo calling for help, and she was also talking to me, telling me to stay with her and telling me it was going to be okay.
I came to Del Webb with chest pain. After spending a lot of time in Emergency, I was sent up to the floor. I had great experiences with all the nurses; they were all wonderful, but one nurse stood out above all the rest. Marlo was extra special, so kind and understanding. Always there for me, especially after surgery.
After surgery, they took me back to my room. I remember sitting in a chair. Marlo was holding my hand and rubbing my wrist because a lot of blood was pooling in the wrist area. She was just so kind. Then, all of a sudden, my blood pressure dropped. It felt like I was just fading away. I could hear Marlo calling for help, and she was also talking to me, telling me to stay with her and telling me it was going to be okay. She was still holding my hand. The last person I remember seeing was my wife. I thought I was dying. I wanted to say something, but the words would not come out. The special heart team worked on me, and I could hear the leader of that team saying, “Stay with us, hang in there.” And then again, I heard my nurse saying, “Stay with us,” and I did.
There is no doubt in my mind that Marlo truly loves her patients. Del Webb Hospital is very lucky to have a nurse like her. I’m so, so grateful for her. I don’t think I would have made it without her. She is an extraordinary nurse.
My wife told me how this nurse put her arms around her and said, “Everything is going to be okay.” We will never forget her kindness, and I’ll never forget those three words—Stay With Us!
