She demonstrated a strong sense of commitment and passion beyond just earning a paycheck.
Patients often complain about negative experiences; however, they rarely take the time to compliment a healthcare professional who goes above and beyond, particularly when they're very busy and understaffed during peak flu season.
I would like to nominate Marna from the ER at NWH at Palos. The extraordinary kindness, compassion, and competency that she exhibited to my nearly 90-year-old elderly mother upon being admitted into the ER was exceptional.
It was evident that this was not just a job for Marna but a vocation, calling, and a deep, meaningful purpose in her life. She demonstrated a strong sense of commitment and passion beyond just earning a paycheck.
In addition, the fact that she was bilingual and spoke Spanish made my mother feel a bit more at ease. She was beyond patient when having to repeat things several times because my mother is disabled and hearing impaired. She took the time to calm my mother down and make her feel comfortable despite being in pain and distress. She checked on my mother multiple times, brought her warm blankets, administered medications after verifying details, and helped her to the bathroom as well.
Upon being discharged, she explained the instructions and medications needed to be taken both in English and Spanish. Her attention to detail was phenomenal!
A sincere thank you to Marna and the entire NWH at Palos staff for helping my mother today.
