Marnie Hall, RN, CMSRN is routinely recognized for her patient advocacy and going above and beyond for her patients. Marnie is an engaged and resilient nurse, filled with positive energy and a can-do attitude that is infectious.
A patient was discharged to home with follow up by home care nursing. The patient was a new diabetic started on insulin and required follow up education on insulin administration. The next morning, a Saturday, case management was made aware that the Home Health team would not be able to see the patient until Monday morning. Marnie was on duty that day and became aware of the situation. Although Marnie had not taken care of the patient while in the hospital, she offered to train the patient if he came to the hospital. Marnie coordinated with care management and the discharging physician. Marnie then trained the patient until he felt comfortable with using the pen and could verbalize understanding of the medication, how to read his accu checks, and how and when to administer insulin to himself.
The physician who nominated Marnie stated, "I was really appreciative of Marnie's professionalism, team spirit, and feelings for the patient which she showed by taking the extra step beyond her scheduled responsibilities. I'm grateful to her for her help that day, and the patient was served well".
