January 2026 Honoree
Marnie Thomas, MSN, RN
Most of us know how wonderful Marnie Thomas is. Marnie has worked at UWMC for about 30 years, for about 22 years as a transfusion safety officer. There are many reasons to nominate Marnie for the DAISY Award; however, a recent specific example stands out. This week, her actions directly saved the life of one of our OR patients.
Marnie went out of her way, stayed hours late, and was hands-on in the OR helping with blood product, transport, administration, and consultation with the anesthesia team. Words from the anesthesia provider directly, “the patient survived directly as a result of Marnie being present.” I am in awe and filled with admiration for this wonderful woman.

Thank you, Marnie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
