My son is suffering of a brain injury and experiencing pain. He tends at times to be impatient and has little tolerance with care given. Marta has shown nothing but patience, compassion, understanding, kindness, and respect to my son. Marta has also comforted me and encouraged me to have hope. Knowing that Marta is partaking in treating my son gives me great relief knowing that my son is in good hands.

Marta has been with LA County since 1992. Marta has worked in different areas and facilities. She was a Med/Surg nurse at LAC+USC Medical Center, a clinic nurse at El Monte CHC and since 2007, Marta has been an ICU Nurse at our Neuroscience ICU. She is an experienced ICU Nurse and provides high quality critical care to her patients. She is mentor to many of our new nursing staff. Marta is very patient with everyone, always calm and smiling. Additionally, she is a patient care advocate; she is attentive to her patients and communicates with their families to ensure they understand the daily plan of care. She is bilingual and as a result she often helps the physicians and her peers to communicate with Spanish speaking patients and their families. Marta is also an excellent cook and I know her peers are looking forward to her delicious food every time she is here. Marta is such a devoted team member that even if she is off, she would come in to help the unit in the time of need or if there is any unit celebration to contribute to the morale of the unit. Marta is also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her two children are currently in the US military serving our nation. Marta is planning to visit her son and his family in Japan, where he is stationed as a US Marine. Her daughter is in the Navy. Marta's younger son is still in school, so she is busy with his activities when she is not here at work. Marta also enjoys gardening when she is not busy doing all her other multiple responsibilities.
Congratulations Marta on receiving the DAISY Award! We are all very proud of you!
