After my husband's extended illness and numerous unsuccessful treatments for a lung infection, he had a double lobectomy. It was a very long and difficult surgery but with a much better prognosis for a healthy future. The recovery process was a bit slow and stayed in CICU 3 days. When he transferred to CTU we were so fortunate to have a fabulous nurse, Marta, on 12-hour shifts for 3 days over the weekend. Her care, concern, and advocacy on behalf of P were exemplary. She was concerned that P had a rare lymph duct leak that caused a huge amount of drainage, aka chyle leak. She documented the color, amount, the density, and P's weight loss so that a chyle leak could be confirmed by the surgeon. We credit her for making this life-saving discovery of an extremely rare condition.
