Martha made sure that I knew everything that would occur as a result and that I was aware and comfortable.
Martha was the most caring and devoted and truly loving nurse when my Aunt E was brought to the hospital. She was coughing so much and could not speak, nor did she have the use of her right side; Martha really knew what to do. She asked me all questions about my Aunt's abilities before she arrived in the Emergency Department and what was different now. From changing her positions many times to finding creative ways to communicate with E, she was a pro at treating my Aunt. She brought the team to the bedside to communicate with me and give me the updates that I needed, and she explained everything one more time to me when the team left, and I had more questions.
Though in charge of so many other patients, Martha seems to be there for everyone else and my Aunt as well. Never missed a beat! Martha drew blood, sent my aunt to radiology, was speaking on the phone with other disciplines preparing my aunt for admission, while all this time communicating everything that she was doing and keeping me calm. Ten minutes after the X-ray the Physician Assistant came in to tell us that E had pneumonia, Martha made sure that I knew everything that would occur as a result and that I was aware and comfortable. She was constantly in the room checking my Aunt's comfort and IVs and their connections and answering multiple questions with ease and reassurance. Martha transferred my Aunt to another nurse when we were ready to be admitted and received a room assignment and made sure everything was done and my Aunt and I were comfortable. My family is grateful for Martha's kindness attentiveness and devotion to my Aunt's care.
