Recently, Needham 7 moved to Needham 4. This was particularly disruptive to one patient, who has a reputation for being difficult to work with. The patient was very anxious about the move and was perseverating about her belongings and her newly assigned room. Martha was not caring for this patient but took over the care of the patient during the move so as to allow the primary nurse to focus on her other patients and responsibilities. Martha demonstrated unbelievable patience and empathy throughout the move, which took almost 2 hours to fully operationalize. Martha shared personal history with the patient and was able to quickly form a trusting connection with the patient, allowing the move to be pulled off successfully. This clearly demonstrates Martha's dedication to her colleagues, her patients, and the mission of Mount Auburn.
