She has a gift for making a patient feel loved immediately as she is the first person they see for admission, and they often are scared and broken. She loves them until they can love themselves.
Martha has a mentally and physically exhausting role in BH OP, but she can find time for a laugh and keeps staff motivated at the same time. Because Martha encounters varying degrees of high-stress situations, her gift is incorporating a lighthearted attitude, which provides a sense of stress relief and helps the patient ensure their well-being over the long term. She has a good sense of humor, which helps to spread positivity to other staff members. She is a leader and an advocate. She always reminds patients and their families that they are not alone, which ultimately increases the patient’s trust and openness to sharing feedback and concerns moving forward in recovery. She has a gift for making a patient feel loved immediately as she is the first person they see for admission, and they often are scared and broken. She loves them until they can love themselves. She truly sets the mood for the patient experience and is unbelievably caring for every patient she comes in contact with. She does all of this BEFORE she goes on to care for her family, which has not been ideal this year, yet she never lets it get her down and comes to work as if things are perfect at home. Martha practices empathy and treats her patients as individuals, focusing on a person-centered care approach rather than strictly following routines and guidelines. When patients are fortunate enough to encounter Martha, it makes for a far better care experience and healing journey. I could not believe she had not already received this award - it is LONG overdue! With a happy heart - I nominate Martha Farlar - the best RN ever.
