There's no possible way that words can describe what an incredible nurse Martha is, but I nonetheless will try to put together a few. I had the honor of being Martha's patient for four shifts during my stay at U of C. During this time, Martha continuously poured out compassion, love, encouragement, kindness, and exceptional care.
One day at the beginning of the shift, she opened the door and said, "Hi love," and I immediately knew the day would be a good one. Martha took the time to know her patients and their needs. She could walk into the room, look at my face, and immediately know that I was in incredible pain without even asking. She was always one step ahead of the game with bringing in medications. She went above and beyond every expectation to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. She is so personable that by the time I left she seemed more like a friend than a caregiver. Every encounter with her included some type of laugh or smile. She made fresh coffee for my mom even when she had a full plate. She even went downstairs to pick up a flower delivery for me. Martha is incredible and sets the bar so high.
