Martha is the prime example of what it means to be a patient advocate. She speaks up for others when they can't speak for themselves or are not being heard by their physicians. On this specific day, Martha was caring for a patient who had a procedure and was approaching discharge. The patient reported that they were not feeling well, and the family did not feel comfortable with the patient going home.

Martha was in constant communication with the team; she delegated tasks to others so she was able to remain at this patient's bedside. She took the proper steps to escalate care, which resulted in that patient going back to the Cath lab and then to the ICU. Had it not been for Martha listening to and advocating for her patient, I truly believe the outcome wouldn't have been positive.

As a nurse patients and families rely on us to advocate for them in their time of need, Martha does that every patient every time. Thank you for pushing, even when others were making it hard.
