I have worked with Ms. Rojas for over 5 years and have seen her flourish as a new graduate and become a preceptor here at Los Angeles General Medical Center formally known as the LAC USC Medical Center. Throughout the years, I’ve known Ms. Rojas for her positivity and infectious smile that captivates the unit. When Martha was still on orientation, she lost her father. Even though she mourned her father’s passing, she never let that deter her from the mission of caring for the patients and assisting her colleagues. During the Covid outbreak I witnessed countless of interactions between Martha and her patients. She greeted each new patient with a warm smile which made them feel at ease. She was also known for sitting down with the patients talking about their milestones, singing, or dancing with them and even reading the Bible. Furthermore, when a nurse on the floor needs assistance with a hard stick patient, complicated dressing changes and a Spanish translator, Martha would be the first person to volunteer to help. Also, when a peer is going through a difficult time or has an emergency, she goes out of her way to provide coverage so that the staff can address their personal matter. She genuinely loves what she does and shows through her enthusiasm to educate others in a way that makes them feel accomplished and competent, as though they are the most important person in the hospital. Martha is truly shaping the next generation of nurses! She exhibits everything you envision when thinking about what a nurse should be. Martha’s day-to-day interactions with some of the “more challenging” patients never seem to bother her. Recently, a patient with history of ETOH abuse was admitted in ED observation for placement. The patient had behavioral issues and he expressed his desire of wanting to go home. Multiple attempts have been made to locate the patient's address and family information but to no avail. During Martha’s conversation with the patient, a restaurant was mentioned. She was able to find the number of the restaurant and contact the owner, who is close to the patient’s son. Martha did not just stop there; she was determined and called the number about 40 times. Eventually, she was able to reach the son and arranged a safe discharge home with family. Marth’s quick-witted response and initiative demonstrated patient advocacy.

Today is an important event – a celebration of dedication, caring connection, and unwavering commitment to excellence. I have had the opportunity to watch things unfold here in our unit, and I am profoundly impressed and proud of a nurse amidst the chaos and challenges, she remained resilient, Ms. Martha Rojas. The majority of our patients require a greater level of understanding and compassion, and yet Martha navigated patients with complex care plans with composure, skill, and kind consideration. But it is not just Marthas’ professional expertise that I admire, it is her ability to connect and engage with her peers on a deeply human level that sets her apart. It has been consistent I hear team members say, “If Marthas’ at work, I am good” and this speaks volume! Martha, thank you for being an incredible nurse and you are truly appreciated!

Martha Rojas is an extremely knowledgeable and skilled nurse. Her bright and bubbly personality can light up a room and anyone's day. Having Martha be a part of our team makes a huge difference. She's a great team player and is always there when one needs help during a busy shift. Martha always brings smiles to her patients and always provides exceptional care.
