Marti demonstrates all the characteristics of caring and compassion, holistic comfort, patient advocate, patient and family centered care and she is committed to excellence.
A patient that was traveling to the Florida Keys in his RV with his two cats was involved in an accident injuring his arm and leg. He expressed concern about the welfare of his family, which happened to be two cats, so Marti stepped in to help along with her husband. His cats had been taken to SPCA and the RV left on the side of the road. He had no friends or family with him and he required to be transferred to a rehab facility.
The SPCA was going to put the cats to sleep if they were not placed. Marti rescued the cats and welcomed them into her home. Though kindness and compassion Marti showed was clearly over and above her nursing call of duty, she went a couple steps further. She also helped to arrange for the patient’s RV to be towed to her home and repaired in their driveway. She and her husband also frequently picked up the patient from the nursing home where he was recovering and brought him to their home to visit his beloved cats.
