Marti Sargent, RN

During an exceptionally challenging shift in the Emergency Department, she spent the entire day caring for a very dysregulated young patient who had just assaulted another caregiver. 

With remarkable calm and compassion, Marti de-escalated every attempt the child made to lash out, never once losing patience. Her expert presence created a safe environment for everyone, allowing the medical team to trial several psychotropic medications until the right one was found. 

Thanks to her tireless, hands-on approach, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization was avoided for a child who would have been extremely difficult to place. By the end of the day, the child was happily and calmly playing, and the mother was visibly relieved - grateful for the extraordinary care received.
