I was in your emergency room for shoulder pain. During my visit, I had a cat scan of my chest and x-rays of my shoulder. When the results came back my nurse printed it out and came into my room and sat down. I knew from his expression that it was serious.
He said to me that the cat scan showed a mass, suspicious for cancer in the lung and that it would be wise to have a follow-up. It was not news what I was prepared or wanted to hear and he said, "It's going to be OK, just trust that Jesus will take care of you". I had no primary doctor and did not know how to begin with follow up appointments.
He told me that the next day he was returning to work and will follow up with the patient navigator to assist me with a primary doctor and a specialist. I had lots of anxiety and I was scared. The next afternoon I came back as he had recommended, and Martin continued to reassure me and told me that if the cancer was found in the early stages that it could be treated and that I could have very positive outcomes.
I was able, with his help and the help of the patient navigator, find a primary doctor and an oncologist. I have since had a PET scan and a lung biopsy and Martin gave me his personal cell number for me to update him on my progress and he has been in touch with me weekly checking on how I'm doing. He frequently sends me messages of encouragement and scriptural quotations to cheer me up. Since I met Martin I have quit smoking and I am on the road to a full recovery.
I am so happy that on that evening my life crossed paths with Martin Imbert, and that I chose to come to Florida Hospital Zephyrhills for my care. He made such a positive impression on me and a difference in my life and he is a very caring and thoughtful nurse. Thanks for having him there.
