Mary Ann Genise, RN
Emergency Department

I received a call today from the mother of one of our patients who has a history of osteogenic sarcoma and frequents CHP. The patient happened to be at home who lives close to the hospital. While the patient was crossing 44th and Butler Street, she had fallen on a hunk of cement. This nurse was driving to work and happened to witness the accident. Mom states that she immediately parked her car, got out and came to offer this individual help. The girl told this nurse her medical history. The nurse stated that given her history and the fall, she should probably come to CHP to be checked out. She called for an ambulance and stayed with the girl until an ambulance arrived. While in the ER, mom states how comforting it was to have this ED nurse come in to say hello and check on her. This mom was elated with this nurse and could not say enough positive things about this nurse. She was so very grateful or this nurse taking time to stop to care for her daughter on her way to work especially because she rarely ever is apart from her. She asked me to please find a way to give a special recognition to this nurse.
