Mary Ann is a phenomenal nurse and the epitome of a team player. She cares deeply for her patients and the work she does.

Though there are countless examples, one that sticks out is the work Mary Ann did with a very special patient from Burundi. Mary Ann saw her on a weekly basis and had a great rapport with this patient and her spouse. She made the effort to learn some words in Kirundi to communicate with them during her visits which everyone greatly enjoyed. She took such great care of this patient, and her husband and had phenomenal communication with their daughter out of state. Whenever there was an issue or something wasn't right, Mary Ann would reach out to appropriate people either on the team, at the pharmacy, or to providers, to ensure this patient was getting the care she needed. Mary Ann celebrated with this couple when they received their citizenship.

She really went the extra mile to show them how much they mattered and how special they were. She does this with all the patients she sees. Everyone who has had the privilege of working with her or visiting with her knows what a very special nurse and person Mary Ann is. She is passionate about Advance Care Planning and having these conversations with people. And also visits Heart of Iowa weekly to help with assessments and has special treats for the kids. Though PRN, she works consistently a few days a week and is always willing to take visits to help out. She is truly remarkable.
