Mary Ann collaborated with team members who worked together for hours applying heavy conditioner and combing out the matted hair of a patient with long, thick, beautiful locks who had become tearful at the thought of having to cut her hair and whose family was having significant difficulty managing at home after a recent stroke. Mary Ann bought hair care supplies at her own expense and never mentioned this caring act until she was asked at the end of her 12-hour night shift. The patient was all smiles and thankful that the team worked so hard to save her hair. The empathy exhibited by Mary Ann and her team exemplifies MUSC Excellence and the art of Nursing.
