October 2021 Honoree
Mary Anne Franks, RN, BSN
We have a 32-year-old patient who was admitted with Guillain Barre. She was pregnant on admission and subsequently miscarried her baby and has had multiple complications. The patient was trached and pegged, but finally, she passed her swallow study and was allowed to eat. The patient expressed to Katty and Mary Anne that she liked cake. Katty and Mary Anne went to Kroger on their own time and spent their own money to buy her a small cake. This action demonstrates the essence of patient care-caring for emotional, as well as physical needs and seeing our patients as a person, not just another task to complete. Thank you Katty and Mary Anne for being extraordinary!
Thank you, Mary Anne, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
