Her compassionate care had a profound impact on both my emotional well-being and my confidence as a new mom.
As a first-time NICU mom, the experience was both overwhelming and emotional. My baby had been in the NICU for 69 days, and I was learning how to navigate the challenges of caring for a fragile infant while trying to stay positive and strong. I was still adjusting to life at home after bringing my baby from the NICU, and there were many things I didn't yet know or felt unsure about, especially with feeding and understanding my baby's subtle cues.

During this period, our home care nurse (Mary Beth) came to provide support, and her presence truly made an outstanding difference. One specific instance that stands out is when my baby was having difficulty with nursing; she preferred bottle feeding to breastfeeding, and I was feeling very discouraged. Nurse Mary Beth takes her time to sit with me, listen to my concerns, and offer emotional and practical support. She told me to nurse my daughter for a day, eliminate the bottle, and see how she does. I was so happy because it worked like magic. Currently, my baby nurses well for a long period. She emphasized that caring for a NICU baby requires patience and grace and that it's okay to take things one step at a time.

Another instance is about the amount my baby could consume, as a first-time mom I limited my baby's feeding based on the discharge instructions we received from the NICU and never had a thought to increase her ounces which made my baby fussy every time unknowingly that she was not satisfied. I told her (Nurse Mary Beth) how fussy she has been, and she suggested increasing the feeding a little more, and this makes such a huge difference, my baby is now happy, she only cries when she’s hungry (no fussier), her method works again like magic. Her compassionate care had a profound impact on both my emotional well-being and my confidence as a new mom.

Additionally, the care I received from the home nurse (Mary Beth) was a true example of how outstanding, compassionate care can transform an experience of uncertainty and fear into one of confidence and connection. There are other instances that I didn’t mention, overall, the care we received from her (Mary Beth) was the best.
