I never once felt alone with Mary Beth by my side.
Mary Beth has been my primary nurse since my very first appointment. I have spent multiple weeks with her. Within minutes of meeting Mary Beth, I felt confident with her skills and very much enjoyed her personality and sense of humor. I love how she tells me the next steps, recommends methods to manage my condition, and encourages me to care for myself. Her delicate personal ways to explain the process of what will happen next as well as what to expect for healing are top-notch. She is a fantastic hire for MGH. When you're faced with being ill during a pandemic you pray for a nurse like Mary Beth and I hit the jackpot with fireworks!
Recently during a procedure, she performed a second blood draw for me and in the usual fashion for her was efficient, took on the task with ease, and quickly brought my blood for processing so that the doctor could make important decisions about my care.
In those weeks, I never watched one sunset or celebrated during my care. Mary Beth asked me to look out the window during my most recent visit and said, “check out that sunset.” We quickly got a photo (socially distanced of course) and took a moment to celebrate life. Tears were running down my face with pure joy, appreciation, and exhaustion.
I never once felt alone with Mary Beth by my side, as I had no family able to be present with me for any of my appointments and had a ton of questions, many tears, a whole lot of fears. Mary Beth has been the very best match for me during all my care. She provided me with confidence, compassion, assurance, and hope, and is the true definition of operational excellence in the nursing profession.
In the rare event she has questions, she seeks out leadership consultation. She is professional and takes every aspect of her nursing degree seriously for all of her patients. She is warm and inviting for conversation, makes you feel at ease with all her skills, displays precision with her quality assurance checks (such as gown putting on), and above all makes me feel safe.
I hope you can find triplets like Mary Beth and hire them, so every patient can witness the care she provides! Professionally, I have also learned some new communication styles that she displays and have been using them with my own job!!! Thank you so much, Mary Beth!
