On the med/surg unit, there was a Hospice patient. The family just left and the patient started making a turn for the worse and was not going to make it. The family was called and they were not going to make it back to the hospital before the patient passed. Mary Burgess, BSN, RN was at the nurses' station and heard what was going on. Mary went to the room and sat with the patient. Mary did not want the patient to leave this earth without someone there to hold her hand. Mary stayed late into the evening to be with this patient.
