Mary was a light at the end of a tunnel that seemed to go on and on during my 21-day stay.
I can't say enough great things about Mary. This past November, I was rushed to the Emergency Department and admitted to ICU and then later transferred to the third floor. The first time I had Mary as my nurse we just connected. When she was in the room, I felt like I was her only patient. She was attentive, she took her time, focused on my needs and I felt that she truly cared and wanted to see me get better. Even though I had great care from other nurses on her floor (and ICU even though I was out of it most of the time) I was often sad when Mary's shift was over. I would cross my fingers that I would see her the following day and be in her care. I remembered one day she told me she had the next couple of days off. I was hoping I would be out of the hospital by the time she returned, but unfortunately, I wasn't and was thrilled to see her again. Mary helped me prepare for showers, took her time to remove the tape off my arm which hurt very badly, changed my bedding, encouraged me to walk, would ask me about my pets and family that would come visit. She also shared some about her family and her experiences with healing. I honestly don't think I could have remained positive if Mary wasn't one of my nurses. She was a light at the end of a tunnel that seemed to go on and on during my 21-day stay. I am a KP employee and I am so proud that my organization has nurses like Mary working with me. Thank you for everything. Mary, I hope to stop by your department and say hello! You are appreciated and deserve recognition.
