Mary's patient was scheduled for a high-risk thoracic surgery and wanted to be able to visit with his therapy dog before the surgery. Mary, who commutes from the St. Louis area, coordinated with the patient's veterinarian and drove to Kirksville and back to pick up the patient's therapy dog. The patient was able to spend a few hours with his dog before going into surgery, and Mary drove the dog home before returning home to St. Louis.
